Fireplace now works

Lor came by and lit the pilot light in my gas fireplace.  I sure like the cosiness of that!  The rug came back from the cleaners with a whole new lease on life.  Now for the hide-a-bed that I ordered.

Marlene was kind enough to drop off some tulips to brighten up my dining room.

New digs

It has been busy, crazy busy but now I am happily settling into my condo at High St Place.  Much smaller - so much stuff has gone!  And I am trying to fit the rest into place.  Before I moved in the carpet was removed and laminate installed.  Now I am busy making it my own with my own furnishings and art.
Here is my condo from High St.  This is a two storey building and I am on the lower floor at the end.  The windows are my bedtoom window on the side of the building, another window in my bedroom along the front and then my living room window.  Further over is the balcony that leads from my dining room.  Below my condo is the storage area.  I have to come outside to get to it but the storage room is quite large - so I have decided to call it my basement rather than try to change.  I drive up into the underground parking here as well and walk along a covered walkway behind the building.
The lobby and mailroom are in the building behind mine.
Today was a lovely sunny day and the high temperature was 2.  I went across the lake to see if I could take a photo of the hospital directly above the condo.  Learned two things - my unit of the condo does not get direct sunlight at this time of year, and when the hospital is directly above the condos it is hidden by the trees of Gyro Park.
In this photo you can see the hospital peeking out from behind the trees at the upper right of the photo.  In the centre below the rock is the group of the condos that faces west and does get sun.  My unit is at the left side of the photo in the shade.

Not too far from work but I will likely never walk!

Hooray!

One goal achieved.  Now on to the next.  Somehow I feel that panic should be setting in.  I'll hold off as long as I can because I know that panic doesn't achieve anything.  I'm sure I know that!

Condo here I come!

Farewell Uncle Tom

My Mom's last remaining brother passed away on August 3 at age 94.  He was an amazing fellow who immediately recognized my voice when I called to wish him happy birthday on May 30.  A gentle man who loved family.  It was always a must to visit him while in Saskatchewan and that last visit was in May of 2013 when we went out for the LWO 10th anniversary.

Here is a photo taken at his birthday celebration this year.  94.

Easter and the bunny-flipping ritual

I know this is out of order but had a dreadful time trying to get it to publish.  May have been the size of the video files.  Now I just have to figure out how to re-order the posts!
Lor cooked the Easter ham this year and we followed it up with the bunny flipping.  Not nearly as fun now that we make sure that everyone has finished eating.  Jimmy had the flu so he and Kim didn't come for diinner.

View from my new office

The only thing that wasn't sad about Valene's retirement as my boss is that I got to move into her office - further from the door in the heat of summer and cold of winter, and far more confidential for patients.  In the office I was occupying previously I could easily hear conversations of people in the lobby so I'm sure they were able to hear mine!

And the bonus is:

Not that I get to stare out the window all day!  There's a reason it is called "work"!

Al & Nancy dropped by

Al & Nancy stopped in Nelson for a visit on a trek that took them through Canmore to Nelson to Kelowna.  It sure was good to see them.  Lor and I joined them for dinner on the Friday evening and then Kim and Jimmy and I joined them for breakfast on Saturday morning.  Sure lucked out, two great visits and two great meals.

Aahh! Victoria!

Had another lovely trip to Victoria at the end of June to visit Kevin.  I had taken that time off hoping that my house would sell and I could stress out by packing and moving.  But no action yet.  I might just be here in another thousand years!

Great views from the top of Mt Tolmie.

The blues in this shot are spectacular.

And these clouds really appealed to me.

And we went to Cadboro Gyro park.

This tree is complete with seating in the perfect photo spot!

King's restaurant is closing!

Dad used to have coffee every day at King's with Maudie and Larry Johnson and many others over the years.  Each day they would buy a couple of scratch tickets and enjoy each others' company.  So when I heard that the restaurant was closing I thought that we should honor Dad's memory.  Jimmy wore Dad's SSR hat, adjusted to Dad's head size not Jimmy's, we all took some scratch tickets and I took the photo of Mom and Dad.  Jim and Kim won back their ticket investment, Lor went bust, I won some - just enough to buy a 6/49 ticket - exactly what Dad would have done!

Birthdays and Farewell Dinner

We haven't been together for very many birthdays recently so we sang to everyone!  Diarmid has now returned to Australia and stopped by to add his voice and smile and humor.

Christmas in Victoria

I spent Christmas with Kevin in Victoria.  The weather was the best that I have ever encountered for the holiday season and Victoria really sparkled in the sunshine with the warm temperatures.  When we went to the Ogden Point Breakwater on Boxing Day I saw some people with ice cream cones and decided to join them.  I have never had an ice cream cone on Boxing Day before!  But it was 10 degrees and the sunset was just amazing so we had our ice creams as we walked along the breakwater.
The crowds and the traffic made me realize just how happy I am to be from a small town where the store clerks greet me by name.  Each day once I was tired of shopping we went for a walk on a lovely beach.  The wind stayed away.  The ocean was almost still when we went for our walk on Christmas Day.  Aubrey came for a visit and joined us on the beach.  One photo was taken at Beaver Lake of a tree stump with branches growing out of the top.  The water was so still that the photo almost looks alien!
