Snow on the mountains

Here is the first snow photo of this coming winter. Makes my hands very cold when I pick the raspberries!

Boston for Meditech training

Boston 2009

We went to Boston one day early to take in some of the history. We followed the and were just amazed at some of the sites. The old area of Boston is quite small so this walk took only a few hours. Then we tasted some pretty incredible clam chowder and did some shopping at the Quincy Market and Fanneuil Hall.
Meditech training is designed so that there is no homework - we sat at their computers loaded with their software, were presented with the information, had time for hands-on practise and note-taking. When we left for the day our heads were full! So then we just took the train into town to eat and play. We stayed at Dedham, about 20 minutes south on the commuter train. I got to have my lobster dinner, some folks went to see the Red Sox lose to the Blue Jays, there was an evening of dinner in little Italy followed by a visit to an Improv club, and on the last evening we went to an upscale mall that is just opening very near our hotel.
The beautiful atrium in the photos is of the Meditech building at Canton, where our training occurred. This building is located on an old farm that was once used for sulky races. The racecourse and stables are still there but the horses are not.

Pass Creek Fall Fair

Lor and Emily and I went to the fair. Emily enjoyed the laser tag! We all enjoyed the food, the exhibits, the entertainment and the horse show. Madison took top honors in her class!
Emily thought that next year she may even submit some things for the exhibition.

More of my commute

This is the view on my way to work about a mile from the previous photo that I posted back in June. The hospital is about in the middle of this photo, a beige building.

The hedge is no more!

Gordon decided that it was time to get rid of the hedge and I heartily agreed. When it was cut open we could see that it was only green on the outside foot or so. What a fireball that would have made should a spark have landed there! It was a fun day and then fun afterwards when people saw it for the first time! I was surprised to see how far apart our houses are.

Huckleberry picking 2009

Bonnie and Gordon took pity on me and we went picking huckleberries one day this summer. We went to the same spot that we went a few years ago, the backside of Elephant Mountain. Huckleberries were extremely plentiful this year and I now am the proud owner of 3 bags in my freezer for pie or jam or....

Emily's Riding Adventure

When Emily was keeping me company at the end of August we went to see Deb and Madison and Shadow and Thunder when they were going for their usual morning ride. What a lovely spot! And there are many horses besides theirs. After their ride they shared with Emily and you can see by the looks on her face how much she enjoyed it.

Emily and I

At the end of August Emily came and hung out with me for two weeks. We had a lot of fun, including this Lego fest.

Time to catch up

This little cutie is Kaia. Her Mom Lisa is one of our ultrasound techs. They came to visit during the summer raspberry season. Kaia loved to play with the ball that I made for Kevin when he was a baby, like a Nerf ball. In this photo she had it under her skirt so that she looked like many of her Mom's patients!

This is the Hotel Ymir lobby. We went there for lunch one day with Gordon and Bonnie. http://hotelymir.com/
The fellow who owns it has made it into quite the showplace with all his artwork! But they make their fries from real potatoes instead of from a bag in the freezer.

Ray and Brenda came for a really nice dinner. I think we actually were able to eat on the deck between the wasps and the mosquitoes.

My commute

I took this photo on my way to work a couple of weeks ago. It is about a mile from home, near the Nasookin, the lake was just like glass and I decided that I have the most beautiful commute in the world.
I wanted to stop and take some more photos closer to town but ran out of time!
There have been a couple of problems with sizing of photos and where the text then appears in the following posts. Please bear with me and I'll fix it!

Lor's birthday celebration

Here's the lemon cheesecake birthday cake.

We had a wine theme - it obviously hit the mark!

Kim's friend Steven was visiting.

Marketfest 2009

On the last Friday evening of June Lor and Emily and I went to Marketfest on Baker St. It featured entertainment and vendors and we sure enjoyed it all.

Farm Visit

We went to visit Dianne's farm. When she first invited us
the lambs were small enough to pick up but we didn't get
there soon enough! It still was a really nice visit.

Mom's service

Here we are at the hall following the service with Al Reed and Helen McDiarmid

Here is Emily at the grave, sharing her last tears

Here is the pretty cemetery and to the right are Uncle Tom and Frances Worman.

LWO

I loaded these photos in the wrong order! Here is
the trophy presentation, the one player missing
had visited the drink cart a few times more than
the others.
Below are Steve and Christa and Adele making
their toast to Eric.

LWO

This is the drink cart. VERRRY POPULAR!
And led to scenes like the following:

Here we are, the gang on the 8th tee. Jim and Kim
joined us partway through.

Here are Emily and Liam at the start, you can see all of the golf carts lined up, some of the drivers had interesting technique, reminiscent of bumper cars!

the Eric Kiteley Memorial Golf Tournament

This is the 6th annual tourney. Over 60 golfers this year, what a memorial to Eric. I was part of the 8th tee group, Wanda took team photos, we handed out shots and the golfers drank a toast to Eric, or Boogie, or Boogs, as he was known. Eric would have been 30 this year.

Gord is showing off the trophy. As the tournament has evolved, it was given a classier name, like the Vancouver Open or the Miami Open. In Carrot River there is great competition to take home the trophy for the Legs Wide Open.

Gymnastics

Emily took gymnastics all winter and we were invited to come to the last session to see her performing manoeuvers that all the adults wished they could still do!

Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday it is traditional for anyone who likes to fly kites to go to the picnic beach at Kokanee Park. This year the weather was just OK. We went early because there was rain forecast for the afternoon so there weren't many kites out yet.

The wind always cooperates and Emily had a great time with her kite.

The water is always low in the lake at this time of year, controlled by the Duncan Dam. The lowest water is at the end of March. By mid-August the pylons are much further out.
